Description Bayonet, sword type, 1907 Pattern to fit the Rifle, Short Magazine Lee Enfield. Long, single edged blade, with a rounded spine and a single, shallow fuller. The ricasso (base of the blade) is stamped on one side with a King's Crown above the initials 'E.R.' the pattern year '1907' and the issue date '12 08', and the maker's name 'Wilkinson'. The other side carries the War Office acceptance mark '/|\', a number of inspection marks, and the proof mark 'X'. The grips are of wood held together by two screw-rivets. The pommel features an oil-hole and the press-release button. The initials 'G G' are stamped between the grips, this could indicate that this bayonet was at one time issued to the Grenadier Guards. This was the bayonet issued to the majority of British and Dominion soldiers during the First World War.
